by Jess Gibson

Family Corner, the family arm of the ÎÞÂëÌìÌÃ, has announced the line-up for its second free, virtual family festival taking place in February.

Home is where the start is: Communication counts is aimed at parents and carers of children under five, with a focus on how they can support their child’s communication and language development woven throughout a range of virtual sessions that will run from Thursday 22 to Saturday 24 February 2024.

The three-day event – celebrating the role of parents and carers as their child’s first and most enduring educators – will be led by the BBC’s Tiny Happy People and children’s television presenter, Annie Price, and include sessions on: bilingualism; Makaton and music; movement, rhythm and rhyme; as well as much more.

Families will be able to sign up to as many, or as few, free sessions as they wish.

The event is supported by the Department for Education’s Voluntary and Community Sector Fund, and families can sign up to the event here:

Commenting, Julie Pearson, early years development manager at the ÎÞÂëÌìÌÃ, said: "At the ÎÞÂëÌìÌÃ, we know that the earliest years are crucial when it comes to children's development – particularly in supporting their speech, language and communication â€“ and the role that families play in this is extremely important.

"As such, our second annual Family Festival will celebrate the role of parents and carers as their child's first and most important educator, with a variety of sessions packed full of ideas and advice ranging from cookery and wellbeing sessions to an insight into baby brain development. We hope you can join us for what hopes to be an exciting and engaging few days."
