At West Street Nursery we provide a learning environment which encourages children to engage in high quality activities. We use the children's interests to support the children in reaching their full potential in a supportive, nurturing manner.

The quality of teaching is good with some outstanding aspects. Children display high levels of engagement as staff skilfully arrange learning environments to support their interests and independence.

Parents speak very highly of the nursery and value the kind and caring approach of staff.

Children with special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities are exceptionally well supported as staff work very closely with parents and other professionals to ensure their needs are met.

The manager tracks and analyses children's achievements effectively to ensure all groups of children make good progress.

Older children develop a keen interest in plants and nature. They identify several of the herbs that they have helped to grow in the nursery garden.

About us

West Street Nursery offers a stimulating approach to early years development and learning for very young children. Within a safe, friendly and fun environment, children are supported by qualified, caring staff in developing a wide range of skills and interests. The children enjoy learning through play experiences in bright indoor and outdoor play areas with exciting outings planned regularly.

We are managed by the ÎÞÂëÌìÌÃ, the largest voluntary sector provider of childcare in England with over 50 years experience delivering childcare and practical, professional support to early years practitioners.

Our nursery plans its activities in accordance with the EYFS with a strong focus on exploratory, imaginative play and healthy eating. We recognise and understand the huge benefits that free flow play has on the positive development of very young children. Every child in our care is supported by a key person who understands their individual needs and offers special care and support to them.

Rigorous health and safety and policies and procedures are in place to ensure that every child is protected and feels safe and happy with us.ren to observe and learn about.

The Life Cycle Of A Butterfly

On the 16th June, our caterpillars arrived in the post. We put them in a special net where we  watched them grow and then make their cocoons. After 7 days we watched each Painted Lady Butterfly emerge. The children asked lots of questions and we based a lot of activities around butterflies and their life cycle. Two days later we took our five beautiful butterflies into the garden and the children set them free. They held them very carefully and said goodbye. We still talk about them everyday and the children look out for them in case they come to visit.

Impact on children's learning

  • The children learnt to care for living things
  • New vocabulary introduced e.g.. metamorphosis
  • The children are still asking questions and extending their knowledge of the subject
