About us

Storkway Nursery is a 50 place nursery, open 51 weeks of the year, on Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm.

The nursery originally opened in 2005 and is managed by the .

The ÎÞÂëÌìÌà is a national charity that provides quality childcare and training for the early years.

The nursery is made up of two rooms, our Explorers (6 months to 2.5 years) and Discoverers (2 to 5 years)

The Discoverers room has a ratio of one staff member to every 8 children for 3 year olds and one staff member to every 4 children for 2 year olds. They can take up to 32 children.

The Explorers room has a ratio of one member of staff to three children and can take up to 12 at any one time.

Our approach

We aim to provide a stimulating and positive environment that:

  • Helps children succeed
  • Builds learning communities
  • Creates the childcare which families need.

To do this, we provide a free-flow style setting which allows the children to choose what they would like to learn, both inside the room and in the garden. We allow the children to freely access a range of sensory experiences in a way that they can develop, explore and add to in line with their interests.

We follow the children's lead in their learning and sometimes run whole projects based on a child's interest. From the initial experiment or activity, we then build on the child's knowledge, critical thinking, questioning skills and understanding to extend the range of your child's learning.

Our parent partnership

We believe that as a parent, you are the most valuable source of information in regards to your child's learning, likes and dislikes. During settling sessions, we ask you about your child's likes, dislikes and learning, then extend from this as we track their development. We also encourage you to send us pictures of activities you have completed at home or events, to add to your child's learning journal. We have home packs available for you to use.

We also believe that a good relationship with you is important. We host events and open days, where we invite our parents in to complete activities and enjoy celebrations with us. We also have a question of the month, where we ask your opinion on several topics and use your feedback to develop our ideas.

FAQs

Do you offer funded hours for two, three and four year olds?

Yes, we offer 15 hours in the form of three 5 hours sessions, either from 8am-1pm or 1pm to 6pm, or in the form of 5 three hour sessions, either from 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm, the term after your child's second or third birthday. To access Together for Two's, please visit .

We also offer 30 hours funding to any parent who can provide the relevant 11 digit code. To apply for this, please contact the HMRC and make an application during the term before you would like to use it. We place our 30 hours funding over 5 afternoons, from 1pm-5:30pm, for 51 weeks of the year. All children are welcome to add hours to funded sessions if needed.

Is there a minimum amount of hours the children are required to do?

There is not a required amount of days. However we do recommend that each child completes at least two sessions a week at the nursery. We find that this helps the children to settle in and creates a consistent routine to ensure they are happy at nursery.

We also advise that children under the age of two (in our Babies room) complete a minimum of two full days a week at nursery (8am-6pm). This ensures that they have enough time to spend with the staff and other children, playing and enjoying their time, outside of naps, mealtimes and the initial comfort stage when their parent leaves.

Do you provide all meals, including dietary requirements?

Yes, we provide all foods that are eaten during mealtimes. Our cook orders our food in fresh each week and creates each meal from healthy ingredients, based on our weekly menus. If your child has any dietary requirements, please let us know at their settling session so we can plan for their meals and ensure they are catered for.

We do ask that parents of children on powdered milk provide this for us in the container it is brought in, this ensures all milk preferences are followed and we can record exactly how much your child has drunk during the session.

What do we need to bring to nursery?

We advise that your child arrives in suitable clothing for the weather outside, such as a coat/sunhat. You may also want to provide Wellies for puddle jumping in the garden(although we do have some spare!) and suncream for the warmer weather.

We also advise a change of clothes in a backpack.

How do I find out how my child's day has been?

We use an online management system, Famly, on which each child has a profile that only the parent and staff have access to. On this system we:

  • Tell you about your child's day, such as what they have eaten, what nappy changes have taken place and how they have slept.
  • Message you with any updates or pictures.
  • Post information about the nursery, such as closing dates and our newsletter, on our news feed.
  • Invite you to events through our calendar.

How do the fees work?

From the charges mentioned on our home page, we work out your weekly fee, then multiply it by 51 weeks of the year. We then take that total and divide it by 12 to make nice, equal monthly payments.

We invoice you through Famly, which will email you a PDF copy of your invoice and place it on your news feed. You then can pay by direct debit, card payment, standing order, childcare voucher or tax-free childcare (please sign up for this with the HMRC).

Once we have recieved your payment, we can upload it onto your child's profile, so you can see your balance.

How does the settling in process work?

We initially offer three settling sessions, all an hour and a half long. During the first session, you will meet with the Setting Manager to complete paperwork. During the second session,  you can stay in the room with your child and get to know the key person together. During the third session, we ask that you come out into our reception area. This is so we can see how your child will cope in the room without you. From this moment, we discuss whether your child will need any further settling sessions based on their progress.

Do you have any spaces available?

We operate a waiting list system and do currently have a waiting list for all age groups. How quickly you move up this list depends on the age of your child and what types of sessions your require.

To join the waiting list, please visit the nursery, have a look around and complete a waiting list application form. We then give you a call as soon as we have a space available.

"My daughter has been attending Storkway for just over a month after transferring from another nursery. I could not be happier with all aspects of the nursery. My daughter absolutely loves it here. All staff are very friendly and helpful. We are always greeted with a smile. She is always happy when I pick her up, telling me about her day and what she has done with her friends. The Famly app that is used by the setting is great, I can stay informed and connected all day!! Great nursery!!" Lucy (Daughter, aged 2, 15/10/2019)

"Storkway Nursery is a warm and welcoming environment for children to play and learn. The staff are lovely and care for each individual child to a high standard. I never worry leaving my son in their care. He settled in well and easily built good relationships with each staff member. The Famly app is a great way for me to check in on his progress and general well-being. I am so happy I found this nursery. I always talk about Storkway to my friends and family because my son enjoys it so much." Gemini (Son, aged 1, 26/11/2019)

"My son started here when he was 5 months old. As a first time mother I was worried and did not know how we would all take it. 2 Years and 2 months later we could'nt be happier. The staff are amazing, firm yet loving and they teach me too as we go along. Very glad we picked Storkway :) Bhumika (Son aged 2, 06/09/2018)

"After one day of my son starting Storkway, he is already sitting down to eat at home, which has been a major struggle. I look forward to further progress!" Naomi (Son aged 2, 05/09/2018)

"My two girls attend nursery five days a week. I find the staff extremely caring, friendly and attentive to me and the girls. The girls love going to nursery and often talk about their carers with excitement and affection. I highly recommend this nursery." Ana (Daughters aged 3 & 1, 10/09/2018)

"I find Storkway staff very professional and helpful, ensuring all my child's needs were met. The equipment/toys were always set up and presented very well, engaging children to want to play with them! Lunches were varied and staff always encouraged children to eat, giving parents feedback daily on eating, toileting and the day in general." Holly (Daughter aged 3, 13/09/2018)

"My eldest son has attended this nursery for approximately 3 years. My husband and I have been very pleased overall and my son has been very happy and extremely well cared for. I have always been able to talk to all the staff openly and freely. Where I've had some worries about my son's behaviour/development, I have been able to speak to the staff and get feedback, and we have worked together. Most importantly, throughout all his time here I have felt staff have cared about him and I know he is well looked after. My baby now starts in the Baby room and I have no worries he will be well cared for. I have also recommended this nursery to friends and its good for value." Helena (Sons aged 3 & 8 months)

"Storkway Neighbourhood Nursery is a wonderfully welcoming and warm background where children are nurtured. Fun is woven into the environment and children are shown genuine warmth and affection by all of the staff. There are a range of activities set out by the nursery nurses but childre are still free to make choices as to where they play and develop. Storkway comes highly recommended." Sarah (Daughter aged 3)

"We only have good words about our experience at Storkway. Our daughter has already been in baby and toddler rooms. The staff have always been very attentive and affectionate towards our daughter and we have developed a very good relationship with them. Our daughter is now in her transition to the pre-school room and all staff including the manager have taken special care ensuring the move was smooth for her. The current nursery manager deserves explicit praise as well as she makes sure she liaises with parents about all practical matters. In sum, great staff, very effective management." Maria (Daughter aged 3)

"My daughter is attending Storkway Nursery for about 6 months now. Although we had a difficult start with settling in, she absolutely loves nursery now. Staff were very supportive, management provided extra settling in days, just to make sure my daughter is happy. My daughter is starting to talk now, and I have noticed she picks up a lot of new things from nursery. Great thing also is that you can monitor your child's activities from provided app, so you can see from work when your child is fed, how many times changed or went to sleep. I highly recommend this nursery," Alesia (Daughter, aged 1)

"Storkway is the best nursery I have sent my children to. The staff are friendly and they always make you feel welcome and always make sure the children are number one priority. Always serve nutritious food and ensure the children have a different activity to do every day. Amy (Son & Daughter, aged 4 & 3)

"I am very happy that my child attends this nursery, all staff are very helpful and kind. I also enjoy the app and think its very useful." Lily (Son, aged 2)

"My daughter struggled to settle. However the loving and caring staff and management help to make the difficult transition to nursery a great experience. My daughter has settled and loves nursery and her teachers very much." Bronwen (Daughter, aged 2)

"My son loves going to the nursery. Enters with a big smile every morning. Carers are very friendly and look after the children perfectly and professionally. Online application system is easy to use and provides all necessary information about the daily activities and child's development." Judit (Son, aged 1)

"I'm very happy my little boy is at Storkway Nursery. Staff is lovely and I feel safe and trust my baby is being looked after with care during the day." Carla (Son, aged 1)

"Storkways are always professional and fully fun for my daughter. They organise varied activities and have an  amazing outdoor play area where the children can play whenever they wish to. We are very happy with the team." Chloe (Daughter, aged 1)

"We would like to thank you for such a warm welcome in the nursery. Your support in the settling process has been much appreciated. Dominika (Son, aged 8 months)
