Welcome to Northlands Park Nursery

Northlands Park Nursery is an ÎÞÂëÌìÌàchildcare service located in Basildon, Essex.  We offer 50 Ofsted-registered places and are assessed as 'Good' by Ofsted.

Ofsted

We had our Ofsted inspection in November 2017, and were awarded a  'Good' grading. Below are the highlights of why Ofsted made this decision.

  • Children and babies enjoy the time they spend in the nursery. They show high levels of motivation as they explore the play areas confidently.
An effective key-person system helps children to develop a sense of belonging and build strong bonds with staff.
  • The well-qualified staff accurately assess children's achievements and understand their interests and developmental needs. They provide children with interesting challenges and well-tailored play experiences. Children make good progress and develop the skills they need for future learning.
  • Staff are calm, patient role models and demonstrate respectful behaviour. Children follow their example as they show kindness, share resources and play harmoniously.
  • Self-evaluation is effective. The manager gathers views of staff, parents and children to identify the strengths of the nursery and areas for further improvement.
  • Parents say they are very happy with the service provided by the nursery. They are very complimentary about the manager and staff team and how they sensitively offer extra support for individual children and their families.

About us

Northlands Park Nursery offers a stimulating approach to early years development and learning for very young children.

Within a safe, friendly and fun environment, children are supported by qualified, caring staff in developing a wide range of skills and interests.

The children enjoy learning through play experiences in bright indoor and outdoor play areas with exciting outings planned regularly.

We are managed by the ÎÞÂëÌìÌÃ, one of the largest providers of childcare in England with over 50 years experience delivering childcare and practical, professional support to early years practitioners.

Our nursery plans its activities in accordance with the EYFS with a strong focus on exploratory, imaginative play and healthy eating.

We recognise and understand the huge benefits that free flow play has on the positive development of very young children. Every child in our care is supported by a key person who understands their individual needs and offers special care and support to them.

Rigorous health & safety and safeguarding policies and procedures are in place to ensure that every child is protected and feels safe and happy with us.

Bees  - 6 weeks to 3 years

The Bees is a bright and welcoming environment with lots of open space for our babies to explore! Our room takes children from 0-3 years and can hold up to twelve children each day. The ratio for 2-3 year olds is one staff member to four children and for 0-2 year olds one staff to three children.

In the Bees we aim to keep your child’s routine the same as it is at home by adhering to your child’s sleeping and feeding patterns. However, we do find as the children get older they naturally settle into the nursery’s routine.

We have a large carpeted area where we set out a wide range of different toys and activities each day. These include musical instruments, treasure baskets, shaker bottles, small world toys, cars and car runs, mirrors, shape sorters and many more. We set these out to suit all age ranges within the room each day. We have all our toys at children’s level so that they can access what they would like to play with.

We have a laminated flooring area which is where the children eat their snacks and their meals during the day and this is also where we set up creative and messy play activities such as gloop, jelly play, play dough and much more.

Ladibirds - 1 years to 3 years and Butterflies - 3 years to 5 years

Out larger room is split into 2 areas with a gate seperating the areas.

The Ladybirds area can take up to 12 children aged between 1-3 years. The ratio for 2-3 year olds is one staff member to four children and for 1-2 year olds one staff to three children.

The Butterflies area can take up to 24 children aged between 3-5 years. The ratio for 3-5 year olds is one staff member to eight four children.

The rooms are always busy with lots of different activities both indoors and out and the children are able to move freely in and out of the garden throughout the day.

We have a quiet corner with lots of books and puppets, a well equipped creative area which is available for the children to access what they would like to use freely, a maths area with puzzles, shapes, scales etc, a literacy area for mark making and we have an area inside and out for physical activity such as sticky kids or bikes and trikes.

We are very lucky to have such a lovely garden which also has a fantastic park area with slide and climbing frame. The children can choose from lots of different activities outside such as water play, sand tray, bikes and trikes, floor puzzles, waffle bricks, balls and much more! We also have an undercover area which allows us to go out in all weathers.

Do you offer the additional 15 hours funded entitlement for 3-4 year olds?

We do offer the 30 hour funding. Page Content

All three and four-year-olds are entitled to 570 hours of government-funded childcare per year; from September 2017, the Childcare Act 2016 increases this entitlement for working parents by an additional 570 hours.

This means many families will be able to claim 1140 hours of free childcare per year, for each of their three or four-year-olds. The entitlement at Northlands Park Nursery will be used across 50 weeks of the year - this works out to 22.8 hours per week.

How can I help my child to settle in?

All children are different, some settle in straight away, others may take a little more time and encouragement.  We will work with you to help your child to settle in in a way that you are comfortable with.  You are welcome to stay with your child as long as you like during this process.  It can be helpful to visit us with your child before they start to familiarise them and to get to know their key person and other staff.

How will I know how well my child is doing?

Every child has a learning journey book where their progress within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is charted.  You are welcome to look through your child’s book at any time and talk to your child’s key person.  We also hold parent/carer meetings twice a year, where you can have a sit down meeting with your child’s key person.

"My son has cerebral palsy and requires one to one. All staff have been very helpful and accommodating for his needs. The actual nursery is lovely, clean and modern. The food is great. I would strongly recommend this nursery".

"A lovely nursery with excellent and friendly staff".

"My little girl is so happy in the nursery that when I pick her up she doesn't want to leave! She likes to show me all the toys she has been playing with instead.
I feel like her key workers understand all of my little girl's idiosyncrasies and enjoy looking after her.
I feel confident and happy that my girl is in a safe and professional environment".

"My daughter started attending Northlands Park Nursery just before her 1st birthday and she settled in so well. She will be 3 in October. The staff members are so friendly and willing to help. I often ask quite a few questions and they are always more than happy to help. My little girl really enjoys going to nursery, playing with her friends and learning new things. I would highly recommend this nursery which I have to a number of my friends".

"After using almost every nursery/pre-school in the area with my ever growing family, I can honestly say that Northlands is by far the BEST. My child who has GDD has spread his wings and turned into an amazing boy.
The staff at the nursery are amazing and it feels like a close family, the children always look happy and the staff interact all the time with them. My boy LOVES it here. The staff are always on hand to give advice and are always up to date with the boring paperwork relating to my child. I wish I’d found this nursery for my older children!"

"Knowing she is safe, cared for and loves being there makes it easier to leave her. She has good relationships with all staff and I can’t thank them enough for the contribution they have made to her development. The outdoor space was a big draw for me and she is clearly benefitting from their teaching. She is advanced and independent for her age and I feel fully supported and kept up to date by the nursery. The app is fantastic to keep in touch. I have recommended this to many friends".

"My son has been in Willows class for nearly 1 year now and absolutely loves it. There are many toys and activities, lovely space outside and the staff are amazing, caring, gentle and kind. They support the individual needs of the children and are development focused. Communication between staff and parents is excellent and in various ways, from daily update sheets, notices in the child’s wall pocket or a useful app that is being introduced. The food is a healthy menu that rotates every 3 weeks and my son regularly tucks into seconds!"
